In Person Drop

I have started the activity of in-person drop and intend to follow a certain strategy to target selected employers over the period of at least two months. I’m primarily focusing to target information technology companies in Karachi and am aiming for mid career management level B2B sales and key account management position. The industries which I’m targeting are: Information Technology, FMCG, Telcos, Pharmaceuticals, Automotive and few miscellaneous well known employers. My strategy includes applying to a target firm online first, then sending my resume’ and cover letter by courier to the concerned person, reach out to my network for referrals and to forward my CV and where none of the aforementioned steps don’t yield result with in two weeks timeline then proceed with an in-person drop. An excel sheet will be maintained for the same purpose to make the activity manageable.

To begin with, I’ve visited one of my past employer Agriauto industries to drop my CV. Unfortunately, the day I dropped in the resume’, management were not at the head office rather they were at the factory so I didn’t get a chance to get my message across. Although, I’ve dropped my resume’ and conveyed to entry level staff that I will visit them again in near future.

I’ve visited two other places as well. One at the Thal paper sack, a packaging company where I met senior manager marketing and discussed briefly about the purpose of my visit. I was assured that my resume will be forwarded in HR and will be intimated whenever there is a match. Similarly, I visited Career Development Center (CDC) at IBA and asked them to forward my resume to potential employers whenever they see a match. I was received passionately as an IBA alumni and next course of action was briefly discussed.

As this activity has just started, I am not in a position to cover on the challenges that can come in my way. I have also started approaching my circle for referrals, to get first hand knowledge of opportunities as soon as they emerge.
