It’s my understanding that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has turned down requests by the supporters of Drug Safety trying to pass prop 2. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has refused to sit down and discuss this issue repeatedly over the years. I don’t see how this squares… how will there ever be medical research on cannabis if the doctors in Utah just like everywhere else can’t do research on illegal substances without risking their license. Saying there needs to be more research before it’s legal is just an overcomplicated way of saying, “We always want it to be criminal in Utah so that the status quo never changes because most of the medical companies in Utah are Mormon family owned.” I would suggest having faith in the people of Utah to make good choices in an era when we have the science to do amazing things that used to be dangerous. Remember when Heroine was created by Bayer and completely and totally legal and marketed to children, pregnant women, and to help with cocaine withdrawals in rehab? Bayer had a lot of Mormon sales reps in Utah for Heroin… it was considered a miracle drug and even had several leaders quoted in their marketing materials back then. I’m sure you could call up Bayer and ask them to look that up for you, or you could just bring it up at the next board of directors meeting…?
