Punj Lloyd forayed into the aviation sector in June 2007, with the aim of offering service support for the corporate aviation in India. Called Punj Lloyd Aviation, the company, in a tie-up with the US-based Global Technology Investments Group LLC, bought a 23.24% stake in Air Works India.

The joint venture has the honour of clinching the first private equity deal in Indian aircraft corporate aviation sphere, and aims to create top notch aviation services and solutions.

Currently, Air Works is one of the top providers of aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services in India and aircraft paint, and refinishing in the UK. Set up in 1951, Air Works is a professionally-managed company that renders overall services.

Punj Lloyd focused on the defence sector in 2013, and decided to be a major player in the sector. After accessing the defence requirements of India, it made strategic investments. The company set up a modern fabrication and assembly unit in Malanpur near Gwalior. The unit works on machining, welding and fabrication of land system components, assembly, integration and testing of weapons besides providing facility for maintenance and repair of existing weapons with the Indian Army.

Besides this, Punj Lloyd has the multi-specialty aerospace and aero structure capabilities in the Indian private sector. It has access to hangars and runway near Bangalore which are capable of handling Airbus and Boeing commercial platforms.

The company holds the licence to build aircraft parts and accessories, and has the in-house capability for aerospace design and analysis through its group company, known as PL Engineering.
