Absolutely wonderful. I wish that I had had someone to explain it so candidly to me.

So many seem to think that by not explaining things they’re keeping their kids ‘innocent’, but they’re really not. All it means is that they’re picking things up on the playground from their peers and usually it’s badly garbled and carries exactly the wrong message.

A colleague of mine told us at work about her son coming home from school and saying he learned a new word in their sex ed class — “spachina”. When she said she didn’t know what it meant he said “Aw Mom, it’s like pussy”. He was 9 and this was 30 years ago. Imagine what else he learned from his friends…
