If you are reading this, you probably agree that Bitcoin is one of the most significant inventions of our lifetime. Proof of Work (POW) mining enables and secures the Bitcoin network, thus making the miners the foundational piece upon which Bitcoin is built.

The Purse team wanted to show our support for miners and share how the Purse platform is among the best use cases for spending Bitcoin. The Mining Conference was held in Austin, TX, from October 5th-7th, at a child-friendly resort.

We learned the latest developments in mining, and it was refreshing to connect with so many Bitcoiners. While early Bitcoiners like Kevin Zhang (SVP of Mining at Foundry) had used Purse, newcomers were less likely to have heard about Purse.

One of our favorite talks was with Pierre Rochard, VP of Research at Riot Blockchain. Pierre did a Bitcoin 101 overview with a Q&A for over 2 hours. The intimacy that The Mining Conference provides for attendees is a breath of fresh air compared to massive conferences.

Pierre highlighted that Bitcoin’s fundamentals are: Freedom to earn, Freedom to save, and Freedom to spend. For freedom to earn, one doesn’t need a government-issued identification or other credentials. All that’s needed is software; it doesn’t matter where you are in the world. For freedom to save, Bitcoin enables regular people to be self-custody and be their own bank. Freedom to spend signifies Bitcoin as P2P electronic cash, as highlighted in the Bitcoin whitepaper.

Purse’s mission of making Bitcoin useful has enabled several hundred thousand users to spend and earn Bitcoin over the years. Purse’s community is a shining marketplace example of what Bitcoin represents.
