I’m convinced we are moving towards bionic implant technology pretty fast. Already, we see cochlear implants used successfully on deaf patients (one example exists in my family, a boy of 10). A universal human dataport interface as seen in cyberpunk universes like in the Shadowrun stories and games springs to mind. I’ve heard the opinion recently that the current generation of children is the last one to be buried without cybernetics inside their bodies. For better or worse, it will come.
