“It took me some time to learn TOSCA test automation tool. But I am glad I revisited these free trainings again and again to understand the tool usage.”

My Learning Journey:

I started my learning journey in year 2019 when I was researching an effective way to test PDF, since in my project we had to test Fax letter in every other release. Testing them using Selenium Java did not seem to be feasible although its possible using additional library like PDFBox.

It was then that I started learning “Automation Specialist Level-1” online training.

Challenges & How I completed these certifications:

  • I tried taking the training with the Trial version of TOSCA. Could not use it within 30 days, since keeping pace with training and its assignment seemed overwhelming. Also most of the concepts in “Automation Specialist Level-1” is very important and have 24hrs of content to complete.
  • It was difficult to understand the tool usage in the beginning since my background was from Selenium and my expectation on leveraging the tool was similar to Selenium. But tool itself was bit different
  • I went halfway through the training and ultimately gave up.
  • Finally, I requested for new Trial version of TOSCA and re-did all the lessons.
  • Failed the “Automation Specialist Level-1” in my first attempt. Went through the lessons again and then finally scored the certifications in 2nd attempt.
  • “Automation Specialist Level-2” is 8hrs of learning content, however its seemed much easier to complete. It provides guide on test case template creation and API test case designing.
  • Once I completed these certifications, I was ready to work on the project.
  • However as I said, its an enterprise tool and until the organization gets the license, solely working in the trial version is not advised, since all the project work will be lost once trial period of 30 days is over.

Actual work on TOSCA:

This year, I finally got chance to work on this tool and let me tell you, I still had to revisit these trainings to ensure I am doing it right.

It was more fun learning and building the framework.

I hope this inspires you to follow the same approach working with any tool/framework.
