Being some what of a public figure, I was once reluctant to share this with the world. My hood knows me, and my background but living a lifestyle that society probably wouldn’t believe as a gang member I’ve never shared it with the world. I was initiated into one of the most dangerous gangs in America at the age of 13, the Gangster Disciples. Leaving my past actions in the past and living a more productive life wasn’t a hard thing to do. The hard part was explaining to people that yes I am G.D. but no I’m not about the bull shit anymore. I am what most know as an O.G. entering this life 20 yrs. ago but my actions don’t reflect what society and media portray as such. My affiliation never left and isn’t going anywhere, when I die I’ll be G.D. However I look to uplift my G’s and show them ways to take care of their families, protect our communities and homes, and simultaneously stay out of trouble. I commend the sister Tyshmia, rep your set and hold down your fam! I respect what the gangs in Baltimore are doing, little do most know it’s just all coming full circle. In L.A. the gang life began as positive assets in the community it wasn’t until they were infiltrated by powers who didn’t want to see our communities thriving did the beef, violence and overall survival of the fittest mindset take over. Be blessed in Yah.
I don’t feel bad [when people call us thugs] because I’m going to look at them and say, I’m not a thug. I got my high school diploma, I got my GED, I went to two years of college. I’m going to Baltimore school of massage to study esthetics. I want to be a dermatologist. Even though I did decide to be a Crip, I’m still a citizen. I pay my taxes, I do right — I don’t break into places, I don’t steal. A lot of us don’t do things like that. A lot of people put us in a [box] and that’s fine, I’m really used to being [seen as] a statistic but to me, I’m not nowhere close to being a statistic.
