China launched a blockchain-based identification system for smart cities

China has launched a blockchain-based identification system for smart cities aimed at improving communication and data exchange between them.
The system is developed by three institutes in Shijiazhuang city and will assign a unique global digital identifier to smart cities across the country, the Global Times reported, citing Xinhua News Agency.
Zhang Chao, Director Of the Shijiazhuang two-dimensional code technology research Institute, said that the system developed by China will be “ distributed and managed by the country, with a single distribution rule, distributed storage solution and crack-resistant code.”
China began testing the development of smart cities in 2012 with the goal of creating at least 100 by 2020. According to Deloitte, as of last summer, about 500 smart city pilot projects had been developed in China — the highest number in the world.
