That wasn’t the case with early youtube, with the online scene that allowed such great and diverse voices as the Green brothers to rise up, get an audience, and start making amazing content. The great thing about online video, the thing that separated from other content, was that anyone could give it a go, the bar of entry was so low. That’s no longer the case, and now now new voices are excluded unless you have a ton of disposable income and/or a ton of connections.
