Interior Castle, by Saint Teresa of Avila - Notes

As part of celebrating the 500th anniversary of the birth of Saint Teresa of Avila in 1515, I wanted to read her Interior Castle. I knew it was a spiritual classic, from a Doctor of the Church, but was surprised at how much of her personality comes through in her writing. She can be funny at times, as seen in some of her famous quotes. Her descriptions and vivid imagery would be helpful for those on any stage of their spiritual journey.

It is such a deep book, though short, that it cannot be consumed the same as a novel. It requires pondering and meditation, allowing each passage to sink in. So I put it away for some time, picking it up from time to time or reading a section before mass, so that now almost two years since I began and two months from the close of 500 years since her birth, I am close to the end.

Interior Castle, Dover Thrift Edition. Any quotes I cite are from this edition.

I will begin putting my notes here and hope they are beneficial to others reading this classic.

Saint Teresa, pray for us!

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
