On February 22nd, 2017 there was a shooting in an Olathe bar and grill in the state of Kansas. The man alleged of doing the shooting was harassing 2 men inside. Witnesses say he was shouting slurs at them. He was kicked out but came back an hour later, this time with a gun. Witnesses say the man shouted “get out of my country” before he started shooting(Washington Post). He shot three men, One killed, the other 2 injured and currently recovering.

This is being investigated as a hate crime by multiple police officers and the FBI. The shooter had seemed to believe the men were of Middle Eastern descent but failed to realize that the men were Indian. No questions were asked and all shots were fired.

It is clear to see that anyone who has brown skin is going to be targeted for the next 4 years. People have been on high alert, especially for those in the Hispanic and Muslim-American communities but now that someone died in the Indian community, it shows that no one is going to be safe. Ever since Trump has been elected, many minorities have been injured due to a recent hate rhetoric towards anyone who looks of foreign descent. The recent confidence in creating chaos and causing people to be injured, in this case killed, is very concerning with the well being of Americans.

The only solution to this problem is for the officials to investigate this shooting and to label it as a hate crime. No sane person, whether they are drunk or not, would ever think about shooting a person because of the color of their skin. It’s not even fathomable to think about, much less do. In order to stop these different crimes from happening, the shooters should be punished and the victims’ families must have justice for the pain and terror of this shooting. If no one is going to be punished then these shootings will continue to occur.
