Day 10: Restless
When the poor and needy seek water,
and there is none,
and their tongue is parched with thirst,
I the Eternal One will answer them,
I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
Isaiah 41:17 NRSV Adaptation Mine.
I am restless.
I am restlessly reading for a 10-page paper due in 24 hours.
I am restlessly searching for fountains of life to emerge from dry wells.
I am restlessly waiting for a return to wholeness.
I am restless because black lives are taken needlessly.
I am restless because black lives are taken without justice.
I am restless because my sisters are killing themselves.
I am restless because my sisters are dying.
I am restless because my sisters are killed.
I am restless for the day when my friends feel safe.
I am restless for the day when I am safe.
In the reading today, God reminds us that She is here, watching our restlessness and she will meet our needs to resolve it. But not yet, only in her good time will she fulfill our needs. Yet for now, we suffer.
Is God a Sadist?
Does God want us to fall apart?
