“Is that your first bottle of wine?” Sarah asked when she walked in the door.
“Of course, Dear,” Matt said, opening the second bottle of wine. “I knew you’d be home and I thought you might like a glass. How was work?”
“That’s good,” Sarah said, taking the proffered glass and kicking her shoes off onto the floor. Work had been shit, but she was home, and the wine was excellent. Even if her husband wasn’t telling the truth. Such was marriage.
“Anything exciting happen?” Matt asked, looking at his wife like he hadn’t seen her in a long time. There was something odd about his expression, but Sarah shrugged it off as the vino.
“No, it was just long and boring. I don’t really want to talk about work. Let’s talk about anything else. Well not politics, I can’t do that. But tell me something interesting. Anything at all.”
“Well, it’s going to be warmer tomorrow,” he began, his head a bit dizzy from the first bottle of Cabernet. Shit, he should have eaten something.
