Easy and Free Pattern

Original photo and top by Quinn Nunes.

I had a request from a customer for a high neck shirt that tied in the back. Her defining criteria, “I don’t want to have to wear a bra with it!” So I set out to make something young, fresh and funky just like her. I created a high, halter neck by starting with a 30 chain row and expanding as I worked my way down. No bra meant adding in some extra support so I made sure to make the bottom rows of single crochets a little tighter than the rest of the work. The whole piece took me probably 3–4 hours to make and that was with creating the pattern as I went along. This easy halter crop top will make the perfect gift or item to sell at the street fair. Tie off and cut work.

Create a border of SC by inserting hook in bottom corner of top. Insert 1 SC along the side creating your own spaces. When you reach the top corner of the shirt, make sure to insert 2 SC (insert 2 SC in each corner stitch). Continue the pattern of 1 SC around the rest of the shirt. When you reach the beginning of your border join with a SS, cut and tie off your work.
