How to use the internet

The internet is a great thing which gives everyone a voice, whether they deserve it or not. Everyone gets a chance to voice their opinion on any subject or anything they want to. This is a great thing, which brings everyone together and gives you the opportunity to get more information about a place you are buying from or the product someone is selling. The goal of the internet is to let everyone have a free and uninhibited voice and a forum to express their opinions freely. This is a great gift for everyone to have, but it comes with a great reasonability.

Computers give us the opportunity to communicated to anyone around the world without having to see them face to face. The lack of face to face makes it much easier for people to take advantage of the anonymity and allows them to say and do whatever they want because people wont find out who they are. This can lead to many hurtful and disrespectful comments, and can ruin the experience of the internet for some people.

To prevent these things from happening here are some of the things everyone should do on the internet:

1) Treat people the way you’d like to be treated, remember every comment you type is being read by a human being. If someone puts up a video or post, there is no need to type a rude comment or to put them down in anyway, that’s the great thing about the internet…. There is always something better to be watching or doing on it. So don’t hurt someone’s feelings just because you can.

2) Be respectful of societal boundaries, this means no racial comments, no sexist comments, say nothing that you wouldn’t say in a public forum, if you wouldn’t stand in a crowd and say the comment you are about to type, then don’t send it.

3) Remember your online presence is potentially the first thing a new employer, or new friend will see, or something family members my see. This means you want to make a good impression, you want to show you are a considerate, intelligent, interesting person. To do this you must think before you post.

4) Don’t abuse your power. The internet gives you the power to influence change, whether it be a comment directed to someone or just a review of a product you purchased, these give you the power to influence other people’s choices, so don’t lie or fabricate a story.

These are some of the rules you should live by online. The best thing to always think before you post something is what would your mother think, would she approve, if the answer is no then it would be a good idea not to post it.

The online world has the ability to change the world, and already has in a lot of ways. The ability to share ideas with anyone no matter who they are or where they live has given us the ability to expand our thinking in so many different ways it is redefining our world. For the internet to stay a wonderful thing we must all respect it, and respect everyone using it, because the more people using the internet is the best chance for new innovative ideas to be created.
