The paintings of God are both Michelangelo’s. The one on the left is detail from the Creation of Adam and the one on the right is from the Creation of the Sun and the Moon. Both are on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City.

Curious to know what people search for online when researching God’s Word from the Bible? We combined Google search volume numbers for specific verses and then filtered for verses specifically dealing with quotations from God. Then we added some related classical art and here are the top three results, sorted by popularity, most popular first:

1. Jeremiah 29:11, Hope in Hardship

This is the most searched God quote in the Bible. People search for this verse on Google over 135,000 times a month on average.

“For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

— God, Jeremiah 29:11, New International Version (NIV)

In this verse, God reassures that He has good plans for the future despite any current hardships.

The historical context for this quote is God addressing the Jews, through the prophet Jeremiah, who were forced out of Jerusalem to live in exile as captives in Babylon for some 70 years.

Bible quote: New International Version. Painting: Jeremiah lamenting the Destruction of Jerusalem by Rembrandt (circa 1630)

2. Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and courageous”

This is how God encouraged Jeremiah to lead the Jews to conquer the Promised Land after Moses died.

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

— God, Joshua 1:9, King James Version (KJV)

Indeed, Joshua would go on to courageously lead the Jewish people to take over the Promised Land with great and enduring success.

Joshua Commanding the Sun to Stand Still</i> by John Marin (1848), demonstrates Joshua’s courage in and determination in battle as described in Joshua 10.

3. Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, I am with you”

God says not to fear, reassuring that He will show the way.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

— God, Isaiah 41:10, King James Version (KJV)

The “right hand” is often invoked in the Bible as the stronger and more dexterous side. As such it also used in a symbolic way as strength for overcoming fears.

That concludes the top 3 most famous God quotes in the Bible. There are a total of 11 quotes from God listed in the original article, all of which are googled, on average, 12,000+ times per month. For the remaining 8 quotes please see https://www.quotescosmos.com/bible/people/God-Quotes.html
