God gives the fifth commandment to Moses. God’s commandment is this: respect your parents. The New International Version Bible says “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”

What does ‘honor’ mean? The original Hebrew word in the Holy Scripture is כַּבֵּ֥ד which means to make honorable. So we are to give great respect and esteem to our parents.

Among the Laws of God given to Moses in Exodus 20, this commandment is the most searched for online of them all.
