God commands Noah to build an ark of gopher wood. The Hebrew word for “gopher” is גֹ֔פֶר which appears only once in the Bible. The ancient biblical Hebrew which is the source scripture for the Bible has no direct translation into other languages. Strong’s Concordance Hebrew dictionary defines gopher wood it as “a kind of tree or wood (as used for building), apparently the cypress.” However, the exact type of wood is not known.
