In recent years, data, and especially its collection, protection and distribution, have become a highly debatable subject. It is a very sensitive topic since many big companies collect and market user data for their own purposes. Every time we move online, we leave our digital footprint. To prevent companies from exploiting user data one would have to stay offline. However, in the digital age, where everything happens online, this cannot be the solution. repay.me wants to dissociate from this pre-modern approach of other big companies and wants to bring benefits to the producer of the data, namely the user.

repay.me is a Berlin-based start-up that will launch a global marketplace in summer 2018, offering up to 100 percent cashback for every purchase.

On the repay.me marketplace, new and used products can be purchased; online shops and even offline stores can sell their products with full cashback functionality.

Claim Profits From Your Data

repay.me has an elementary but meaningful claim: profit from your data. This correlates to a simple fair share principle: the more data the user shares with repay.me, the more cashback s/he receives. In a nutshell: 80% of repay.me’s advertising revenues will be paid back daily to its community, in form of cashback. In order to generate the cashback easier and faster, repay.me will issue its own cryptocurrency: the REME-Coin will enable up to 100 percent cashback on any purchase online and offline just by paying with it — making the users’ shopping experience not only safe but also easy and enjoyable.

User data, and its use, is a very ambivalent topic. Therefore, it is most important to know exactly what will happen with your data and who has access to it. In an interview with repay.me’s CEO Mario Peter, he states that data protection is “a very important subject for us [repay.me], because it is a very sensitive topic, so we worked with professionals right from the beginning. We work together with renowned specialist lawyers with whom we have also developed our data protection concept. We already meet all the criteria for the new EU data protection regulation, which will take effect for all companies from May 2018.”

Innovation in Privacy Policy

The new EU Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO) aims to standardize data protection legislation within Europe, in order to give individuals more control over their data and to make it easier for users to access their data. Everyone has the right to know which data is collected and used. In addition, the user will be entitled to have clear and easy access to the information about who processes the data for what purpose, how and where.

Data Protection Made Simple

At repay.me, all data will be anonymized, which means that no personal data will be carried to “the outside world.” repay.me’s data protection concept also regulates who has access to it, which is only a very limited number of employees. With regard to the company’s privacy policy, Sascha Jonas, repay.me’s CTO, explains: “Not everyone can access it [user data]. The concept also regulates which data we collect and how; how they are made anonymous and where they are stored. We also have a deletion concept, which means that if a user decides that s/he does not want to continue to use his/her data, we will of course delete his/her data completely.”

repay.me also has an external data protection officer, a specialist lawyer for data protection, who regularly verifies that everything is implemented according to the EU data protection regulation.
