“The guys I had to beg to come to Nebraska never ended up playing.” -Tom Osborne

There is a difference between recruiting vs. begging and selling vs. helping.

The best salesmen understand that they are not talking people into anything, or taking anyone's money. The best salesmen believe in their product and understand they are offering a service that can help someone!

I serve as a high school football coach and I believe in my product. I would not be the man I am today without the impact football and other sports have had on me. I learned how to LEAD (Love, Effort, Attitude and Discipine) and created life time memories and bonds with coaches and teammates. That’s why I try to encourage every boy to participate or at least try playing a sport.

It would benefit the team and the individual if more boys were on the football team this fall however I don’t believe it is in anyone's best interest to beg young men to play this game. I provided benefits and encourage them to give it a try but at the end of the day I’m going to coach the kids I have and not worry about the others. I would rather coach an athlete with less talent but is enthusiastic about the process of getting better than someone who is being forced to show up.

My recruiting style may not be the best but I’m a darn good recruiter. Don’t believe me? Just take a look at my fiance. I’d say I out kicked my coverage!
