“We spend more time planning our vacations than we do our daily lives”-George Raveling

My mother is getting married at The Walt Disney World Resort in less than 60 days. I know this not because I have a countdown clock but rather because In order to take full advantage of our time at “The Happiest Place on Earth” now is the time to plan our every minute of our trip…Where we will sleep, what we are going to eat, and not just the attractions we are going to experience but the order and what time (down to the minute) we are to be in line!

When people spend as much money as they do on a vacation to Walt Disney World or any other destination it makes sense to do some serious planning to get the most “bang for your buck”! What if we lived our daily lives as purposeful as we plan our vacations?

So many people walk around aimlessly without a game plan for each day. They may have things they wish to accomplish but the find themselves allowing the business of the day to distract them from getting things done. There are only 24 hours in a day and I’m not saying that your responsibilities don’t matter however you need a game plan to be at your best.

Legendary Football Coach Lou Holtz said it best, “can you imagine walking up to Sir Edmond after he climbed Mount Everest and asking him, “How’d you get here” and he replied, “I don’t know. I went for a walk and long and behold here I am.” Things don’t just happen…”

Personally I use a daily to-do list to keep me on track. At the beginning of each week I print out my list and put each day on a clipboard. I feel great satisfaction at the end of the day looking down and seeing all of the things that I was able to accomplish. Some days, there are items I don’t get to and this inspires me to work even harder and be more efficient with my time moving forward. I currently serve as a high school football coach and below is an example of a normal Saturday. If certain things pop up throughout the day/week (and they always do) I will write them on the bottom of the page. I encourage you to incorporate something like this in your own profession or family!
