Daniel, Michael, we seem to be fishing in the same pond. My approach differs from yours – I think – in that I start from the need for a new Democratic paradigm that is based on an ensemble of concepts and methodologies deriving from soft-systems, management cybernetics, Gaia theory, Liberating leadership, participative systems change and shared purposes and principles.

As I think Daniel knows, I first tried to explain this model in ‘Gaian Democracies: Redefining Globalisation and People-power’ in 2003.

Since 2014 I’ve been updating this model to fit my later understanding, and when it is finished, the new book will be called ‘Super-Smart Democracies: Dissolving Neoliberalism, Elitism and Managerialism.

As I see it, Super-Smart Democracies will emerge when the people, their leaders and their technical professionals learn how to apply an ensemble of management cybernetics, systems thinking, democratic dialogues, complexity theory and Gaia theory to co-create increasingly just, sustainable, and super-smart enterprises, communities, organisations, public services and states.

Thus, in my view, Michael, Super-Smart Democracies would be complex learning systems not just intelligent.

But these are mere cavils, of course.

Keep up the good work, both of you.
