Why I support Jeremy Corbyn (2015)

Very interesting post, and thank you.

The beauty of the arrival of the hundreds of thousands of young, new and returning Labour members who, like you and Jeremy Corbyn want to ‘make things different’, is that they make it possible and essential to ask what ‘different’ must mean in the 21st Century not the mid-20th.

This is a question that John Jopling and I first tried to answer in 2003 with a Schumacher Briefing on ‘GAIAN DEMOCRACIES’. http://www.gaiandemocracy.net. I’m now expanding and updating our thinking with ‘Super-Smart Democracies: Dissolving Neoliberalism, Elitism and Managerialism’. http://www.defeating-neoliberalism.net.

It won’t be easy. Benjamin Bratton got it right in his anti-Tedtalk TedTalk.

If we really want transformation…we need to raise the level of general understanding to the level of complexity of the systems in which we are embedded and which are embedded in us.

This is not about personal stories of inspiration. It’s about the hard, difficult work of demystification and reconceptualisation: more Copernicus, less Tony Robbins.

But, the starting point has to be to ask ourselves and each other what being different will actually mean and how we will have to fundamentally change our thinking in order to get where we want to be.

For me that sounds terrifically exciting.
