Reading the comments has been interesting. One says “ Catholic guilt much?” Others think you may be overreacting. Personally, I think you hit the nail on the head. We live in a virtual world already. Every day I see couples sitting opposite each other in cafes, both immersed in their own separate worlds on their so-called smartphones (I call them dumbphones). When you can get virtual sex online, you don’t need to interact with a real member of the opposite or same sex (depending on your preference). You exist in a lonely bubble without interaction with a real live human being. As you said, “ Which is really the endgame of Neoliberalism when you really think about it — everyone alone forever while nevertheless making massive profits for the men who already have all the money.” Tentacle porn takes it a step further: you don’t even have to visualize actual sex organs. If you find yourself getting excited by a snake or a hole in the ground, you know the reason why. If your laptop turns you on before you turn it on, you also know the reason why. That’s not my Catholic guilt speaking (I’m not Catholic). I just prefer real flesh and real interaction with a real woman.
