Make Time your B**** or you will become it!

When you become effectively self-employed you get a greater freedom around time, although it does appear as a double-edged sword for many on the outside. You can choose how to spend your time however you choose, yet if you wish to replace an equivalent income you may have had before then you probably will have to work longer and harder, at least in the initial phases of getting momentum behind what you choose to do. Now this is very easy for more and more people as you get to choose to do what you love, truly enjoy, gain more responsibility than you would otherwise get so early in the employment sector. However, when I say that you can choose your hours this really can mess with your clock, literally, your biological clock as you may push through hours that you would never have dreamed of doing before had you known that you had to be up at 7am the next day. This is the paradox of Time Freedom.

The Time Freedom Paradox is one that I have been living in since I decided to work for myself ever since I left University and it’s one that feels amazing for someone who values freedom so highly. However, it is in reality only a perceived freedom and one that I have been holding onto for too long at this Wealth plateau for so long. What I feel as an advantage in not having to attend morning meetings or avoid certain meetups in the evening may actually be a great opportunity that I have been denying myself. Until I looked at this from a complete abstract I was hypnotised by this perception around freedom, yet in truth, true freedom is ultimate choice. If I am aware of opportunity or want to do something that could better myself or others (key to the current purpose that I am choosing to fulfil) then I should be able to choose that option freely. The fact that I used to fall behind this habit of shunning what I really wanted to taste in life meant I wasn’t actually free, I only thought I was. Unless I am real about being ‘Master and Commander of my destiny’ and what I truly want I am a victim to this previous habit that once served me. When I decide to make Time my B**** I avoid the feelings around missing out, not achieving my potential, never making something which I might really want to go to, then I actually become more actualized as an autonomous being. The process of moving out of a rigid schedule was the first layer of freedom, the second is the ability to move in and out of it at will. I will keep you updated if I find a next… :)
