“Welcome the The Layer Cake son…”

When you start, you are grinding, you are earning your living. making your crust. You are single-focused cos you perceive ‘dog eat dog’. After a while you gain respect from your peers. From the group of people good enough to stick around and thrive. When you play higher, you don’t realise, but what you’re really doing is making lasting relationships with others that has the potential to be much bigger than Poker, it’s just that Poker is all most people here know, so they usually end up doing something Poker-related and that’s what people hear about and see in the industry. In reality, other things occur. Companies get backed, restaurants get set-up, properties get developed. The world opens up as you grow beyond what you initially perceived your potential to be.

This change can only occur when you realise that you are getting into an ecosystem Beyond The Game. That there are opportunities that exist further than we even realise initially. This might be because we start out ‘grinding’ and working so hard with such laser-like focus or because we become habituated to a certain way of life. Either way, the light is always at the end of the tunnel and sometimes when we look up we realise that there wasn’t even a tunnel!
