What’s After Google Analytic Is Installed?

Now that you have your Google Analytics installed for a website that you want to track, what’s next?

You need to set up a filter for your account before Google starts collecting data for your site.

What’s a filter

A Filter is a set of parameters that you define to tell Google what data to included and excluded on the report.

Why filter?

Let’s talk about what happen if no filter is applied to your account.

You will soon see traffic rolling into your site. At first you are excited because people are coming to your website, but when you look closer these traffic you realize about your site visitors

  1. there visitors are from people at your work place.
  2. Theses vistors are SPAMMERs

Both of which are not your qualifying visitors. Telling Google to excludes these nonqualifying visitors to your site will give you a clear report who your visitors are and where they are coming from. Without filters your data will become skewed making it difficult for you to sort out who are meaningful visitors.

Note that filter is employed so that Google can present you with a clean and more accurate data, this however doesn’t stop Spammers from going to your site.

Two Must Haves Filters

At the very minimal these are the two filters that you should set up in your Google analytic.

  1. Excludes your co workers and you from being counted as visitors.
  2. Excludes any Ghost Spammers visits from showing up in your data.

Here’s how you set up a new filter that will excludes IPs from your home and offices.

To get the IP address of you home or office, go to Google and type in the query of “what’s my IP address”

To include traffic that only happens in on your website. Tell Google to only include information that happend on your website.
