Can’t argue with any of the points made here. But the Village isn’t just a gay-male refuge. It’s also a stroller-filled neighborhood for well-to-do heterosexual families. And it’s not just New York that’s out of reach for many LGBT folk. Every major city in the US is losing these communities as they become havens for wealth and tourism. Gay men and women built these hoods when they were derelict. They made a lot of money marking them up and selling them on. But we seem to have forgotten our own who are still left behind: destitute, alone and afraid.
