Democrats: Make the Open Borders argument or STFU.
Obama, our current beta-in-chief race baiter, produced some recent jabs along the lines of “everyone’s an immigrant.” It’s one of the same tropes we’ve heard in the political sphere and shared by intellectually weak leftists forever.
His actual claim here is that everyone’s status in the USA is equal (except for native americans). No one has more justification in being here than anyone else. Do you realize what that means? He’s actually saying that if Mexico’s policies or corruption become so bad as to become a failed state, anyone coming from that country has equal right as anyone else to be here. It follows that border enforcement is intrinsically unjust.
Aside: Any true believer leftist reading this will probably repeat what they read, “Obama has deported more than anyone!” Nope:
Expulsions of people who are settled and working in the United States have fallen steadily since his first year in office, and are down more than 40% since 2009.
On the other side of the ledger, the number of people deported at or near the border has gone up — primarily as a result of changing who gets counted in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency’s deportation statistics.
The vast majority of those border crossers would not have been treated as formal deportations under most previous administrations. If all removals were tallied, the total sent back to Mexico each year would have been far higher under those previous administrations than it is now.
Anyhow, back to Obama’s nonsense: his is not a tenable or realistic position, which is why he only muses about it in environments where it is not challenged. That means basically everywhere, given his media strategy in his last few years. Obama long ago entered the victory lap state where he stopped defending his statements and lets his surrogates do that, while he releases his latest jamz playlist on twitter. It’s clever, but it doesn’t change the fact that he’s an effeminate weakling.
Anyway, there are only two options available given our current situation.
- A well managed, regulated border with adequate security, followed by an efficient, reformed system for naturalization.
- De-federalize border security. Mass amnesty, cease federal enforcement of immigration laws. This is essentially what an “open borders” policy would be, and it’s what the Democrats parrot (but would never implement).
Insanely, #2 is actually better than the current situation we have. Why? Because the states would decide “screw you Feds, I don’t care if you sue me, we’re enforcing border security for the safety of our citizens.” The current situation is a maze of stupidity with mass human trafficking and drug smuggling. Brandon Darby has reported extensively for some time on the true state of the border. He’s a top notch reporter doing things no one else does, so ignoring him because of his affiliation to Breitbart would be stupidity on your part.
(As an aside, intellectually honest people recognize reporters should be evaluated independently, not necessary based on the “flag” they fly under.)
The status quo is extremely useful for Democrats. Do nothing on the border, call anyone racist who sees the problem to shore up the hispanic vote, and mass amnesty to change the demographics in their favor. But note this: the fact that the border is insecure is part of the strategy. Fear that the Republicans will go “closed border” and “end all immigration” is part of Democratic strategy, even though no one is really proposing that. (No, you dumb leftist, even Trump has never proposed permanently ending immigration. No, not even for Muslims. Go read the actual statements.)
They will never do anything about border security. It is too useful to them politically, and they and their constituencies will likely never be harmed by a semi-porous border’s effects. That’s for those stupid rednecks and poor people out on the border to deal with.
The Democrats are essentially like your parents, who get to give candy and freebies to your children and pass the discipline and tough consequences of those things back to you, the parents. Or they’re like a teacher who’s really cool and nice but never prepares you adequately for the real world, as opposed to the teacher who tells you when you’re failing and shows you how to succeed based on reality.
So sack up, Barack, and just make the argument. Either the federal government secures the borders or it does not. Blanket amnesty and porous, pseudo-enforced borders hurt people more than they help.
