The Eltanin antenna is a mysterious artifact on Antarctica’s icy coast.

Since its discovery, by pure chance, it generated much controversy and debate.

In the early 1960s, the U.S. National Science Foundation promoted an exploration project called Eltanin.

The initiative sought to install a mobile base on the coast of Antarctica to conduct all kinds of experiments.

Scientists would travel aboard the USNS Eltanin, a research vessel, to settle in for at least four years.

One of the main objectives of this enterprise was to probe the icy waters and map the near-shore depths.

It may seem strange to you, but up to that time, Antarctica was an “unknown world” to humans.

At that time, scientists knew more about our cosmic neighborhood than they did about this region of the Earth.

Moreover, those who knew of its existence imagined it as a distant, barren place incapable of supporting human settlement.
