The patient, Gloria Ramirez, born on January 11, 1963, arrived at the emergency room of Riverside General Hospital (United States) at 8:15 p.m. with symptoms of respiratory problems (shortness of breath, inability to control breathing at will), accelerated heart palpitations (tachycardia), desperation and disorientation.

It was February 19, 1994.

Far was anyone from imagining that this patient, with her mere presence, would affect the health of more than twenty hospital workers, causing them severe complications and thus earning the nickname of “the toxic woman” by the media because apart from the fact that she felt desperate without knowing what was happening to her, a series of strange events would begin.

Gloria Ramirez was a housewife of Mexican origin, mother of two children, and resident of Riverside (California, United States), who worked as a volunteer in an elementary school.

Misfortune had befallen her. Gloria had advanced cervical cancer. It was almost a death sentence.
