You have probably heard, saw or read this word multiple times, on the nutritional facts, in a program or a TV-show, in home-remedies, beauty masks, supplements or a lot more.

Vitamins, in the simplest definitions are “organic compounds needed in small quantities, essential for your body to function well”. Most of them usually need to come from food.

There are 13 of them. Vitamin A,B,C,D,E,K with 8 in Vitamin B alone.

  • Riboflavin
  • Thiamine(B1)
  • Niacin
  • Pantothenic acid
  • Biotin
  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine)
  • Folate (called folic acid when included in supplements)
  • Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin)

Vitamins are either water-soluble (B and C) or fat-soluble (A,D,K and E), with the latter being easier for the body to store. The only vitamin our body can make on its own is Vitamin D, yet it still needs sunlight exposure to be able to synthesize it.

Vitamins play an important role in maintaining the quality of life. It’s deficiency can cause health-problems and it may sometimes on the other hand prevent medical-conditions. While vitamins are not a source of energy itself, they do help in the process of generating energy from nutrients and are crucial for the body’s cells to handle their highly specialized tasks.

To help you dig deeper into each Vitamin, know what are its benefits, sources, best way to get,why it is important, and a lot more.I will be tackling each one of them in the next series couple of articles and will give you tips on how our body can maximize from them.

Wait for them, and feel free to leave your comment, questions, or let me know what kind of articles or info you would like me to tackle in the future.
