RAILGUN Weekly Update, November 2, 2022

RAILGUN Project
4 min readNov 2, 2022

RAILGUN’s current status: the RAILGUN Privacy System is deployed and fully active on Ethereum, Polygon and BSC. The Railway Wallet, an independent project using RAILGUN systems, can be accessed at railway.xyz or on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. A standalone desktop application is also available for download here.

October was a massive month for RAILGUN and partner project Railway Wallet, and this energy will continue into November as we look to close 2022 with some strong developments and integrations. Alongside the many releases in October, there is growing excitement around RAILGUN as promotional efforts continue to expand. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for the world’s most advanced Private DeFi solution.

Development Update

The trusted setup ceremonies for RAILGUN’s advanced circuits will go live imminently. Contributors are making some final changes to the frontend to make it even more user friendly after results of internal testing. Further, contributors are finalizing detailed guides on how community members can participate and verify their random number contributions. As stated previously, these advanced circuits are crucial to the robustness of RAILGUN’s transaction system as they allow for an exponentially greater number of inputs and outputs to transactions. Currently, there are 54 additional circuits as a part of these ceremonies which should account for a massive number of transaction types, including multi-token transactions. These capabilities are also amplified by the ability to string circuits together in a sequence, further bolstering the robustness of RAILGUN’s transaction system.

Further, the RAILGUN smart contracts will be receiving large overhauls in the coming weeks, adding new functionality, and paving the way for external integrations. NFT Shielding and Unshielding was successfully integrated into the smart contract and contributors are working on the code to implement this highly anticipated feature through a governance proposal. This feature opens new avenues for RAILGUN users, not only in the conventional NFT space, but also in the realm of NFTs for DeFi. RAILGUN is the only privacy protocol considering private NFTs and once implemented, will be the industry leader in yet another sector.

Alongside NFT support, there will be the ability to Shield to any 0zk address. This functionality is also integral to integrating Ren Protocol & ZeroDAO, which is slated for later this month. Once integrated, users can bridge BTC on the Bitcoin network (and any other asset supported by the Ren Bridge) to Ethereum, Polygon, or BSC privately using RAILGUN in the form of Shielded renBTC or via ZeroDAO. These first external integrations will then pave the way for new and exciting additional functionality for RAILGUN Private Balances.

To maintain transparency and give community members a strong voice in the protocol, these smart contract updates (like all RAILGUN contract updates) will come in the form of a governance proposal

Communications Update

RAILGUN and partner project Railway Wallet received a Twitter shoutout from Unstoppable Domains about the upcoming partnership. Once development is complete, RAILGUN contributors will appear on a Twitter Spaces session with Unstoppable Domains later in November, so make sure you’re following Unstoppable Domains and @RAILGUN_project on Twitter to catch that appearance.

As part of the continued promotional effort, RAILGUN was featured on YouTuber Ceazor’s Snack Sandwich. Ceazor makes excellent DeFi guides, so make sure to show his channel some love and learn a bit about RAILGUN if you’re new to the project. Further, RAILGUN Co-Founder Alan Scott will headline YouTube channel Blockbytes’ Beyond the Block show at 2pm ET Wednesday 2 November 2022. Blockbytes (formerly FTM Alerts) are a well-known stalwart of several prominent crypto communities, and it’s fantastic of them to feature Alan, so give them a follow on Twitter and catch tomorrow’s episode.

2 weeks ago, RAILGUN contributor John spoke at CoinDesk’s I.D.E.A.S conference about privacy on Web3 and blockchain. John did a fantastic job representing RAILGUN and privacy and clearly made a lasting impression on attendees. RAILGUN was mentioned in the conference wrap-up (at 10 minutes in) as a forward-thinking protocol bringing new ideas in crypto.

Contributors are also working with a number of other YouTubers and crypto media sites to get a strong pipeline of content going to build engagement and awareness of RAILGUN.

If you feel you can contribute to helping spreading the message or if you want to get involved in the DAO in anyway, please send an email to mail@railgun.org or drop a line in the Telegram group, Discord, or sending a DM to @RAILGUN_project on Twitter. Every member of the community is a contributor in some way as you have all shown dedication to the ethos of privacy. The DAO is always looking for capable and passionate community members to get involved!
