How to Buy An Engagement Ring? A Guy’s Guide
Buying the perfect engagement ring that she will not only love, but also has long-tern value is a difficult task.
A few tips that we share with our customers to make the process easier:
1. Ask your partners friends for some tips about diamond cut and overall jewelry style.
2. Know your partner’s ring size! You can borrow a ring from her jewelry box and use a pencil and a piece of paper to trace the inside of the ring. Bring that to the jeweler and she won’t have a clue!
3. Know the 4C’s of Diamond Quality by GIA.
Clarity: This refers to the stone’s imperfections, which include mineral deposits and fractures in the diamond. Most of the clarity imperfections are too small to be seen with the naked eye, so you don’t need to invest in the highest clarity.
Color: White diamonds range from colorless (D is the most “colorless” white diamond color grade) to yellow. The more colorless the diamond is graded, such as D,E, or F, the more expensive it is.
Cut: A dimond’s cut is all about personal taste. Hopefully you know what your girlfriend likes. Round, princess, emerald, pear, marquise, radiant, heart, asscher, cushion, etc. are all traditional options, with some shapes reflecting light better than others.
Carat: That’s the weight of the diamond. The larger the diamond, the larger the carat weight, the more expensive it is. The average for an engagement ring is about one carat. The size of the carat weight your choose will directly relate to your budget.
When you buy an engagement ring, you want everything to be perfect. As for the ring’s setting, you will have to decide which style is your partner’s favrotie. The most popular and economical is the prong setting. As for the metal selection, this is chosen based on budget and personal taste with options such as yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, and platinum. White gold and platinum are very popular choices, however yellow gold is considered a classic.
