If you take cooking seriously then knowing about the proper cookware is one of the most important things to learn. The article talks about the different types of pans used in kitchens, their features, and what they are suitable for.

Cooking is often likened to art. And so, just like a painter needs to know his brushes to be able to paint deftly, a cook needs to know the pans which will enable them to create their masterpieces.

Let’s take a look at some famous and some not-so-popular pans and their features so that you know which ones to stock your kitchen with.

Casserole Pan:

It’s a large, deep dish that can be used on the stove top as well as in the oven and can be used to serve too. Generally, it is associated with cooking comfort foods like mac and cheese, though it can also be used to cook meat, braising style. It should be noted that insulated utensils for keeping cooked food warm are also called “casserole” in some places.

Braisier:

Similar to the casserole but often with a rounded bottom, braisier, no prizes for guessing, is used for braising. It is a process of cooking that requires less liquid than a stew. The shallow sides of the braisier collect the steam which cooks the meat or vegetables tender and delicious with just a little bit of liquid.

Dutch Oven:

It might look like a casserole pan, but a Dutch oven is heavier. It comes with straight and sometimes slightly tapered sides and is versatile. It can be used on the stove top, oven, or even for deep frying.

Grill / Griddle Pan:

A large, wide, rectangular pan with no or very shallow sides which is used for grilling foods. The bottom can be either ridged or flat and there can be either side handles, or the more traditional single pan handle. Make pancakes, waffles, or anything you liked grilled.

Saucepan:

Saucepans are one of the most common kitchen utensils and can be easily found anywhere in the world. It is typically round and the body is quite deep compared to the width. They come with a long handle, and often a lid. It is used for a variety of purposes — melting butter, heating liquids, or cooking pasta. However, contrary to its name, it is not the best choice to make sauces. Now you can easily buy unique Saucepans online in India from stores like Arttdinox.

Saucier:

A saucier is what you should reach out for if making sauces is on the menu. They are like saucepans, only with more shallow walls and a round, bowl-shape bottom.

Wok:

It is commonly associated with Asian cooking, perfect for stir-fried veggies or tossed noodles. It is a bowl-shaped large pan with high, tapered walls. They are used with a long spatula or ladle to protect the user from the high heat cooking typically associated with woks.

Another thing to note is that pans come in different materials — copper, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum — which makes them differ in weight, price, and appearance. You can easily find most of the pans listed here in all the materials.

If you have made up your mind and are ready to shop, a good idea is to look online.
