Second session of Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is talking therapies that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. CBT is a highly practical approach, focused solely on the present and the future, instead of exploring past memories or experiences.

First Session of CBT

After the initial assessment client work with the therapist to find out his problematic thought pattern. Initial session is use to develop rapport between the client and the therapist. They’ll also ask about events that may be related to your problems, treatments you’ve had, and what you would like to achieve through therapy.

Second session of CBT

Second session is called also subsequent session. In the subsequent session we educate the client about the ABCDE model of CBT intervention. We educate them about activating event, beliefs related to that event and the consequences of that belief. We also educate them about the treatment intervention which includes disputation and effect of consequences. Therapist and client collaborate together and proceed further in the session.

Therapist and client set the ‘’Agenda’’ for the session. Therapist prefers client choices so that client feels more comfortable. Agenda setting is a collaborative process through which the therapist and patient decide how session time will be spent and what they do in this session.

Assigning therapy “homework” can help your clients practice new skills during the week. While many types of therapy may involve some form of weekly assignment, homework is a key component of cognitive behavior therapy. Mood is also check by their homework. Some clients may respond well to any type of homework, while others may struggle to complete or find benefit in certain assignments. It’s important for clients to step outside of their comfort zone in some ways. For example, it’s essential to learn to challenge unwanted thoughts and increase understanding of feelings and emotions, especially for people who struggle with emotional expression.

If ‘’formal assessment’’ is used like questionnaire then it is beneficial for both the client and the therapist. For client it helps to understand where the client is in therapeutic process. For therapist it helps in research process.

Next is to ‘‘share formulation’’ the formulation provides a theoretical and evidence based description of a client’s presenting problem. After that we see what client have to say about it.

After that we discuss about the main problem if the client agree to that. In which we tell them about their negative or dysfunctional belief and the negative event they experience in their life.

Other interventions like hypnosis, relaxing techniques; guided imagery is used to strengthen cognitive behavior therapy.

Assign and agree on homework ; in the end of the session we assign fresh homework and task if they agree to that then we move towards the end.

Feedback and closure Feedback from clients on their view of progress and the therapeutic relationship can improve effectiveness and efficiency of psychological treatments in general. We brought the session towards end. The date and time is note on subsequent session. At the end of the session we discuss about follow up plan.
