Training for a Savage Run
Conquering a mindset
I’m running a Savage Race in 10 days. 5+ miles with obstacles like crawling under barbed wire, swimming through mud, climbing a wall, jumping over fire, and much more. I’ve ran a 5K before (3.2 miles), but I figure I should probably train for something more savage.
In my first two practice runs (one outdoors and one on a treadmill), I’ve learned one thing. It’s not pleasant, but it seems to be the most important part to making real progress and feeling good about the work I’ve put in:
There’s no avoiding it. You have to get to the point where you want to quit, when your mind actually says that you could/should stop… and then to the point where you go against it.
