Back to science — and the evolutionary underpinnings of morality / ethics. Since humans’ specific evolutionary path is, say 7 million years long — approx 280,000 generations — and during that long passage our evolution took place in socialized tribal bands, it is obvious that personal ‘urges’ are steeped in ‘social outcomes’. It is only recently, say 150,000 years (6,000 generations) that our frontal lobes have given us real introspection, logical structure and technology. Tools with which to vastly improve/destroy ourselves. The dichotomy between ‘old’ ‘insticts’ and new ‘thoughts’ is the human condition in a nutshell. Socialization is the underpinning meaning & should be the goal going forward.
