I’ve had multiple conversations around this guy. Colin Kaepernick. The first thing out of my mouth without thinking is “What is he asking for with teams”? He is not a starter IMO, he’s a decent back up that can win 2–4 games until the starter is healthy. So if he was telling teams he wanted starter money and to come be “The Guy” then it’s a no-brainer don’t sign this guy. It’s almost a double negative, he won’t beat out a quality QB on a team, and the media attention he will bring with kneeling.

The kneeling I understand, and I think it’s his right to do it. I think it’s B.S. that the NFL took that right away from players. Either they stay in the locker room or if they head out to the field they stand. Their voices are being muffled. There’s another angle to this as well, the American Media. If they can get a quote from a guy in the locker room who believes he should stand for the National Anthem, and he shares that locker room with Kap our media will find a way to divide the team on this.

Now we're looking at a guy who isn’t that good, (I know he played in a super bowl). Kap started that year halfway thru the season as a rookie or 2nd-year player. There was no real tape on the guy. After they lost the Superbowl, people had film on what Kap does best and teams found ways to make him decline rapidly. The great players put their strengths on tape for everyone to scheme against, that player finds a way to win regardless. Teams will put up with (just about) anything to keep a player like that on their team. That player is not Colin Kaepernick, he’s a 2nd to 3rd string guy at best. I ask myself do I want a media storm and a national spotlight on a guy who is riding the bench. While also keeping in mind that the other 52 players on my team are not media journalists, they are not articulate in the ways of national politics. The chances that they will be misquoted, taken out of context purely for the purpose of causing a firestorm is very high. Will this help my team win the division, playoffs and maybe a super bowl. In short, No. For any team in the NFL, those are the goals from day 1. Anything short of it is a failure. Teams have weekly days where guys get to go do their charitable work. That day is not Sunday.

Does this analysis of Kaepernick mean I don’t want to see cops find ways to act more humane? Of course, I do. I’ve been cuffed because the cops were looking for another black guy, I was the choice at the moment even though I have no record. I get it. Marylin, you are correct how can we measure these things, is it just a feeling I don’t know? How will we really know? What irks me is this idea that Colin Kaepernick is this phenomenal QB that the NFL turned it’s back on. The reality is he is not that good, if he is not playing then teams are just paying him to kneel.
