I am happy to learn how better to support all people who experience discrimination; that includes transpeople. I appreciate some of your points, especially the one about Trump’s makeup. If makeup were the only problem there, how lucky we’d all be.

But I must also point out that while trans is not new, recognition of trans is quite new. Protocols learned from childhood are not changed with the wave of a wand. It takes time and practice. This is especially true for friends and acquaintances of trans people. If you have known a person as one gender and suddenly discover that in truth, that person is of a different gender, the name and pronoun thing is going to take some work to get used to, as is the whole realization that this person has been struggling with identity for their entire life.

I am looking in the mirror. I am trying to be a better cis, even though I don’t have any trans friends . . .that I know of. But please don’t jump down my throat if I foul up a gender pronoun or a name.
