About Moi
Hello, I’m Ranita and I Love Food!

Seriously, that is almost all you need to know about me.
I love cooking it, discussing it, photographing it and of course eating it.
I find that every thing one eats or cooks has a story, a history. I learnt cooking from my Mum. I remember being younger and peeping over the kitchen slab, the height of which I barely could reach at the time, to see what was crackling in the kadhai.
I grew up seeing my family swap recipes and host dinners and grow closer over delicious food and fantastic conversation. And now, my friends and I routine become kitchen-mad-scientist with dodgy culinary experiments. Best case -there is an awesome new recipe we can all eat and I can write about; worst case — there is a messy kitchen and a hilarious story!

I come from a Bengali family and grew up in Hyderabad. I have had a very cosmopolitan mix of friends and thus influences. I travel as much as I can, and each new place I visit, I invariably fall in love with the cuisine. That of course leads to me striking up conversations with locals, who I coax into teaching me about the food.

Cooking is quite therapeutic too. It is very relaxing to smell the aroma of spices sputtering in hot oil. It is then massively rewarding to see friends and family ask for seconds of something I cooked.
My blogs are my very public journal — wherein I record my favorite recipes, learn about food, and tell my friends how I found a gem in my aunt’s old cookbook or concocted a recipe on a boring holiday. I write about my love for food and my love for life and almost everything in between.

Like everything that means a lot to me, I talk a lot Sass, be it in person or over social media. When we refer to the blog during conversations, “Spice and Shenanigans” is quite a mouthful to say, as you can imagine. So we took the S from Spice, the A from And, and the first and last S from ShenaniganS — and made SASS! It helps that I have the sass to go with the name — an eye roll, huff and Z-snap anyone..?

Aside from being a die-hard religious foodie, I am a book lover, movie buff, music fanatic and untiring chatter-box. And champion biryani-eater. And a clumsy-Bollywood-disco-dance enthusiast. And a dark-chocolate addict. And an unfaltering drama queen. True Story.

I am always on the hunt for some thing fun, and I taking you along with me through my adventures. Keep tuning in!
Love,
Ranita.
