Hate is wrong.

I can’t write this to the people who need to see it. Those people who send hateful, awful messages attacking other individuals. They will continue on their merry ways, viciously attacking anyone they deem worthy (unworthy?).

Medium once again recommended a post by an author I don’t much like.

In this new post she recounts her recent experience posting a silly (slightly racist) message on Twitter. I have heard any number of minority individuals make similar remarks — clearly not really believing it (because they’d actually leave if they believed it) but still making it clear they were uncomfortable around people.

She’s absolutely right. The response she’s received is unacceptable; it’s totally inappropriate and a disgusting display of the worst of humanity.

And I agree with her posting screenshots of those remarks.

She doesn’t say why Facebook suspended her account, I imagine it was because the screenshots she posted were considered offensive. Facebook is wrong on that one to. They should have been suspending the accounts of those people who were sending such awful messages.

Ijeoma Oluo may be the same sort of racist that she accuses others of being but that is no justification for such attacks. It’s wrong and perpetuates the hate and disgust that serves no one.

I really disagree with this woman on most everything but on this, she’s right. Two wrongs have never made a right and far more effective than the profane attacks would be pointing out how her implicit beliefs about white-people sound really similar to the implicit beliefs about black-people that she’d condemn others for saying.

Stop being awful, People.
