AWS has been adding more and more intelligent building blocks over time, climbing up the stack with services that abstract the underlying infrastructure and help with specific tasks in the value chain. Lambda, API Gateway, and Amazon Machine Learning are great examples of this.
Is AWS the next computing platform?

I love this about AWS and I’ve seen a certain group of developers get excited about it too. By building the low-level infrastructure, AWS made it easy for devs to spin up and provision virtual machines for whatever they need, but with tools like Lambda, API Gateway, and AML, they’ve lowered the barrier to entry. These tools make it easy for a wider variety of people to throw together a prototype (or even a production service) before they need to build out any kind of specialized infrastructure on EC2.
