I Don’t Care What Celebrities Have To Say

We, as a society, spend entirely too much time giving a fuck about what celebrities have to say. If my favorite actor says something compelling about societal issues, cool. If my favorite actor chooses not to voice his opinion publicly, cool.

Just because someone happens to be the exception athletically, learned how to become someone else on screen, or fucked their way into the hearts and minds of people around the world, it doesn’t mean what they have to say means more than your voice. Your voice matters to you. You should care about issues because YOU care.

We have no idea who these people are when the cameras cut off and the lights go out. To put that much stock and faith into someone you don’t even know is CRAZY!

They aren’t necessarily role models. They are people that happen to be gifted (or not) and society has told us they should be held at a higher standard. I call bullshit. Everyone should be held to the same standard, regardless of profession or celebrity. We are all human beings. If someone chooses to be labeled as a role model and is willing to accept that responsibility, so be it. If not, enjoy the entertainment and keep it moving.

I watch people criticize celebrities for not speaking up or out. Once a celebrity does decide to speak up or out then they are crucified for not expressing the opinion of the masses (since when did group think become the new wave?). Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

Why care?

How much real change happens when they do say something, honestly?

Their arms (money) aren’t long enough to box with God (big business).

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
