The Washington Wizards are the anomaly of the Eastern Conference. After an up-and-down season of potential flashes followed by embarrassing performances into an 8th seed dumping out of the Playoffs, the Wizards (43–39) were filled with locker room turmoil centered around franchise point guard John Wall. Wall, who was riddled with injury all year, had a lasting effect on the team’s chemistry by missing half of a season and Bradley Beal taking the lead with an All-Star season. In the midst of their struggles was the leak of ever-growing dissonance between Wall and then-starting center Marcin Gortat.
When Wall went out a second time with knee surgery, the Wizards began playing a free-flowing offense with more ball movement and the creation of the #EverybodyEats movement. After a win during their hot streak, Gortat had some choice words that sent their beef into a fever pitch:
