Pixide — Snap, Share, Vote

Pixide_DEF

Today we talk with Pixide founder Stefan Giacone.

In a world where amateur photographers are running wild, mobile phones have replaced our DSLRs as the main tool of choice due to an increase in technology and convenience. Every snap, every photo, and every filter creates a landscape that allows viewers to escape and gain a unique feel for that environment.

Pictures are worth a thousand words and living in the social world we do today, our lives are told one photo at a time. Gone are the days of posts or status updates; we are living in a photographic world and we are constantly photo-documenting our lives. It’s been proven that the most engaged content type on the web these days are photos, so it is no surprise in the rise of the content type. Users can scroll quickly, take in what they see, and like it.

Stefan and the Pixide team want help users get recognized for the images they are taking. The goal is to remove the “popularity contest” that exists on current social networks (i.e. celebrities getting the most likes even though their photos may not be great) and create a pure skill competition on who can take the best shot. Stefan discusses on the podcast the unique algorithm that helps Pixide differentiate in the marketplace.

What’s interesting is the technology they are using behind the scenes which is a very surprising and impressive set of tools which include photo recognition software. This technology will help users categorize their shots and also allow the Pixide team to understand which contests generate the most user buzz (based on popularity).

Pixide is currently being finalized and plans to launch mid-September. The team is looking for beta users and feedback; you can sign up to become a beta tester at http://pixide.org. Be sure to check out the podcast as well to hear more about Stefan and the app.
