Wandering the Streets of Tokyo & Osaka

When I arrived in Tokyo for the first time in February of 2017, I hadn’t slept in a day. My eyes stung and my arms were heavy as I dragged my luggage into the train heading from Narita to Tokyo proper, but I was finally on my way to the city I had only seen behind the glow of a screen.

As the train drew closer to my destination, my heart started pounding, my mind was racing; everything I had worked for my entire life, my dream of finally reaching Tokyo was coming true. When we arrived at Shinjuku station, I took the cab to my hotel, and we slowly drove through the streets of Shinjuku to the sound of softly falling rain. It accentuated the neon lights and LCD screens that lined the endless skyscrapers — I knew I had finally made it to the city I had been dreaming about my entire life.

I knew I had to wander, to explore, and to capture the moments and feeling of the place I’ve dreamt about visiting for so long. I took my DSLR out, walked into the rain, and explored. Here is what I saw, with editing inspired by the many cyberpunk movies, and cyberpunk inspired photographers I’ve been fans of.

My name is Darion Gomez, and I’m a 25 year old photographer from California.
