Step 1: Check out our Staff Picks
When you first login to Ration, you will be on the home page. This is where you can see the curators that the Ration Staff is currently highlighting. If you click on the curator, you will be able to see their full bio and playlist. If you click on a link, you can read their commentary about that link, and then go check it out for yourself!
Step 2: Trust a curator
Did you find a curator that you want to see more from? Click on the ⚡️button to trust them. Now, they will show up on your home page in the People you Trust section.
Step 3: Set up your own profile
Go to the settings menu to update your own profile info. You can upload a profile photo, a background photo, and edit your bio to show people what you are all about.
Step 4: Add a link to Ration
You can add links to your Ration library by copying and pasting a URL or by sharing directly to the app. Write your commentary now, or come back and do it later. Don’t forget that you can always edit the title or the image too. We just auto-populate it to make your life easier.
NOTE: If you do not see the Ration icon in your list of share targets, you may want to restart your phone. This is an iOS bug, not a Ration bug. 😉
Step 5: Make your first playlist
Make a new playlist in your library! Give it a title (or just keep the default one if you are like me and are very bad at making good titles). Then start adding your links. You can reorder links or edit the title by clicking the edit button in the more menu.
Step 6: Feature your playlist and share
Is your playlist ready to share? Feature it and it will be live at your Ration url. https://ration.fyi/*username* — mine is https://ration.fyi/zoe, for example.
Step 7: Share!
You can share your playlists anywhere using your Ration url. Text it to a friend, tweet it out, use it in your email signature, make it your new link-in-bio.
Step 8: Repeat.
How often you update your playlists is up to you. Here are some common use cases:
- Make one playlist and keep updating it.
You can just keep one playlist, add and delete links, and it will always be up-to-date on your Ration profile page.
- Make a new playlist each week and feature it whenever it is ready.
This is what I do, I collect links in my library all week and then build a new playlist each weekend.
- Make small playlists multiple times a week.
Current featured curator Greg Uyeno makes playlists with 3 links and releases them 3 times a week.
All of this to say, this is build your own adventure. Ration is a utility, so use it the way that adds the most value to your media diet.
