Api.ai Company Impact Report

My report “Api.ai steps up to the plate with conversational UI for IoT and mobile devices” was just published on the 451 Research website. Below an excerpt from the report; 451 subscribers can access the full report following the link above.

Summary: Api.ai is a developer of artificial intelligence (AI) and natural-language-processing (NLP) technology. The company has been around longer than most players in the emerging bots space. It launched its first product, a voice and AI-driven personal assistant, in 2011. Building on this technology, Api.ai emerged in 2014 as a PaaS offering to provide advanced tools for developers and enterprises to add conversational interfaces to their Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile applications.

Conversational interfaces are a key component enabling ‘smart’ bots, which have become a major trend this year. Api.ai’s scope is far wider and deeper than many of its competitors, as can be seen from its list of clients, which includes providers of smart-home devices and applications for the connected car. We expect, however, that the company will benefit from the growing relevance and media hype building around smart bots and ‘conversational commerce.’
